Agents J and K

Well, you guessed it !

Yes, this is a post on Men In Black 3, which is not a movie I would have normally gone to see. Persuaded by my son, I went to see this movie sequel (vaguely remembered one of the previous ones via some partial TV viewing).

It was hilarious !!

The whole movie series is about aliens on planet earth and how a separate government agency works to eliminate them all the time. Agent J is Will Smith and Agent K is Tommy Lee Jones. In this latest movie, we also have a Junior Agent K (Josh Brolin), who delivers a very good performance.

I am not going to describe the entire story of MIB 3 here, that’s for you to read up or see in the movie (older folks – please educate yourself first before going to see the movie). The point about this movie is that the viewer is not sure what is going to happen next – which creature will come out of which closet for example, or what is the next antic that Boris the intergalactic animal will cause to happen………sometimes, I was not sure whether the action sequence that was being shown was related to the story line at all, or just like that they have taken a shoot and decided to incorporate in the movie ! Ha Ha !!

I can understand why the movie cost more than USD 200M to take, but am not sure why the box office total is now exceeding twice that amount ! Normal folks (like me !) would not be motivated to go and see the movie, and the original teenagers who saw the first and second movies would have moved on into their twenties now and are unlikely to be fascinated by weird creatures masquerading as aliens and / or Boris-type of animals. Well, that’s my thought process, and I cannot say with certainty that’s how the world views MIB 3. The world seems to have decided that it is worth seeing the movie – it appears from the crowds thronging the movie theatre (may be not exactly for this movie, as there are several movies playing in a movieplex).

Well, well, it is too much for me to see that Agent K went all the way up to the tip of the Apollo rocket carrying the first moon landing mission in 1969 and planted an “anti-alien” device on top of it. Further it is hard to see how Agent J went back in time to help and save Agent K from being annihilated by Boris. Not only that, Agent J actually sees his minor version – he as the small kid, who is being taken care of by the Junior Agent K in the aftermath of his dad’s killing by Boris.

Amazing, and too much to believe, even in this world of make-believe stuff. Sounds more like old movie stuff – not the modern ones in which the agents battle enemies in real time, not going back in time to the past and seeing events as these unfold.

My son, however, thought that the movie was awesome. There rings the box office for sure !

If you want to kill time, this is a good, yet meaningless movie with some stoical characters roaming around the wilderness shooting at aliens and jumping off tall buildings. And sudden appearance by unique animals which go back into the alien bodies.

Wow, how all one can spend one’s money and create such movies with big money !:)
