Break From Blogging

To my readers, here’s wishing all of you a wonderful festive season – Merry Christmas to one and all.

It is really unfortunate that certain very bad things happened just during these days leading up to XMas time – one is the Newtown shootings in the U.S. killing many school children, and the other one is the gang rape in Delhi last week which has driven a mass revolution in India.

It is a really sad state of affairs in the two largest democracies in the world – the U.S. and India. Both are a result of a callous disregard of the ground realities by the elected representatives of the respective governments.

I am not going into the details of these ghastly incidents which are there all over the media, and I have recently written about the school shootings as well. However, I would like to mention that festivities of a celebratory nature are not called for during this season of remorse and suffering. Believers of faith/God can pray to alleviate the sufferings of the victims, and non-believers can “feel” for the sufferings. Even God will not forgive mankind for not ensuring that such incidents happen time and again.

It is difficult to feel good during these times of enormous distress.

Responsible governments should take exemplary actions commensurate with their responsibilities towards civilized behaviour demanded by their positions.

Both the U.S. and Indian governments are not acting fast enough on gun control and enforcement of the laws of the land respectively.

And, this is a serious cause of concern, leading one to distrust their efforts and to believe that such incidents will indeed recur in the future.

Let us hope things would improve.

In the meanwhile, our thoughts are with the victims and their parents,

Best Regards
