Cock + Bull Shiraz

This is a new find for me.

Good quality Shiraz is rarely inexpensive. But at around USD 10 (or INR 550) this Cock + Bull Shiraz from South Australia is a decent one, with a spicy character to it. I liked the wine, though it appears that the wine needs to be decanted for some time before enjoying it. I just refrigerated the wine, and it was too cold to relish the wine.

My suggestion would be to keep the wine cool but not cold, and then to decant it for 20 minutes or so before tasting it. This is different from the other Shiraz wines in that the spiciness or acidity is clearly evident and impinges on you with some force, one has to be really prepared for the same.

The Cock + Bull Shiraz is a good wine, but it would do well with cellaring for a couple of years. The wine that I bought is from the 2012 vintage, a bit too early for the wine to mature into a complex wine, I would say.

In any case, such Shiraz wines should be widely made available in India and wine appreciation needs to be cultivated. We should not depend just on the Indian wine makers who are not progressing into better quality wines – definitely not the Shiraz.

At USD 10, this wine is cheaper than most Indian wines. I am sure in Australia this wine would not cost more than USD 6.

Try it !

Cheers,
