Good quality Chardonnay from down under.
Nottage Hill is a winery under the Hardys Wines group of vineyards in Australia.
This vintage of Chardonnay is fresh and crisp but rather dry. It is good to drink when cold, and paired with pasta and chicken. It has melon flavours which I could detect, but the long elegant finish was found to be missing.
At SGD 23, this is a relatively more expensive wine compared to the far better quality Chilean and South African wines that I have written about. I thought this would be an excellent quality Chardonnay coming from Hardys Wines. While it is good, it would not rate high compared to the others…….again goes to prove that Australian wines are over priced and are not “value for money” wines. The prices should have dropped given the depreciation of the Australian Dollar, but that was not to be.
I keep trying…..though not always successful. But one has to keep trying wines, because there are always hidden gems from the many choices that are available. One thing that I have learnt is not to blindly follow the country reputation while choosing wines. That practice does not always produce the best choice. Own trials and research are necessary if you choose to be a wine connoisseur !
Enjoy your wines responsibly.
