Usually Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blancs are priced around SGD 50 in Singapore. Cloudy Bay wines are some of the best whites in the entire world, but because of such prices I give it a miss most times. Of course, I try these wines in other countries wherein the prices are like the equivalent of SGD 30 (such as the Philippines).
So, I was surprised when I saw Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc of the latest vintage (2015) at SGD 37 at a wine shop recently, and bought it rightaway. I was not disappointed with the wine at all, and since my wife also likes Cloudy Bay we finished the bottle soon !
The Cloudy Bay vineyards are based in the Marlborough region of NZ’s South Island. As per their website information, “Widely regarded as the quintessential expression of the acclaimed Marlborough wine region, Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is an international benchmark wine noted for its vibrant aromatics, layers of pure fruit flavours and fine structure.”. I cannot agree less. This is indeed an outstanding white wine of fantastic quality and complexity.
The Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is easy drinking with strong inducement to quick enjoyment ! It is an aromatic wine with crisp acidity. One can clearly detect the citrus aromatics of grapefruit and lime fairly quickly. Sometimes, I get to think that the price is worth it, though not the Singapore prices !!
Exceptional wines which have to be enjoyed ! If you haven’t you are missing a lot. Cloudy Bay wines are like great single malts from Scotland, though the comparison may not be apt. I continue to look for Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blancs whenever I can.
Enjoy Cloudy Bay !
